Daughters of Former Speaker of Kyrgyzstan’s Parliament Accused of Forgery

Aidai Tursunbekova and Begimai Chyrnbek Kyzzy, daughters of former parliament speaker and businessman Chynybai Tursunbekov, have been detained by Kyrgyzstan’s law enforcement agencies on suspicion of  forgery.
Earlier, the State Committee for National Security (SCNS) stated that in 2008, the Issyk-Kul District Court made a non-jurisdictional ruling that granted private ownership of a plot of land to their ‘Akun’ boarding house. An appeal was then lodged against the illegally issued court decision and the plot of land, at an estimated value of  371 million KGS (43 million US$) were returned to the state.
Aidai Tursunbekova, registered owner of the boarding house  claimed  the land had been acquired legally, referencing the Kyrgyz government’s resolution of June 23, 1998, which had approved a program for the denationalization and privatization of state property from 1998 to 2000, during which 32  boarding houses, including the Chynar boarding house, were put up for sale.
“In 1999, having taken part in the tender (auction), we bought the Chynar boarding house at a price higher than its established value,” she argued. “According to the law of the Kyrgyz Republic, ‘when state and municipal enterprises are privatized, the cost of the land plot is included in the cost of the property complex.’ That is when buying the boarding house, we paid the cost of the land plot, too. We have all the documents confirming the legality of the purchase and sale of the boarding house.”
