Paris uses Yerevan as a tool to achieve its own opportunistic goals and is not guided by the interests of Armenia and the Armenian people. Maria Zakharova, the spokesperson of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), stated this during Wednesday’s weekly press briefing.
"This is typical of the policy of Paris: to be everywhere and not bear responsibility. They had a million opportunities to resolve conflicts; one of them were the same Minsk agreements. Then we found out that it was just a screen. The real manifestations were elsewhere; unconditional support to the Kiev regime on the anti-Russian path, and, in fact, Paris was not interested in all peace agreements, as former French President Francois Hollande also had stated," added Zakharova.
Referring to the Caucasus region, the Russia MFA spox emphasized that there is a peace plan, a step-by-step roadmap for the settlement of the situation, the opening of economic and humanitarian opportunities, to build transport logistics, and all this is included in the relevant agreements reached by Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Russia.
Zakharova emphasized that Russia acted as an honest, open mediator, considering both parties as close countries and peoples and being an interested party, including those bonuses that would bring peace and stability to Russia. The latter’s MFA spox believes that all this has caused fierce envy and bitterness in the West, which considered the Caucasus to be a zone of its interests and, unable to achieve any progress towards a peaceful settlement, is preparing things for another chaos.
She does not rule out that the aforesaid will be seen as revenge for Russia's peace-loving efforts. Zakharova noted that these efforts gave concrete results and outlined a way out of the long-term impasse.
"Solutions were found, we just had to implement what we had agreed on," Zakharova added.
She stressed that today, those who make such proposals to the region as France is doing and take actions like France is taking are bad advisers that lead to disaster.
Also, the Russia MFA spox expressed confidence that the French authorities will not bear any accountability after that, and the peaceful people will suffer.
