UN official: 94% of urban and rural residential areas in Azerbaijan covered by mobile networks

94% of urban and rural residential areas in Azerbaijan are covered by mobile networks, and only 69% of the population uses mobile broadband internet, Kanako Mabuchi, head of the UN Resident Coordinator's Office in Azerbaijan said at an event on "Sustainable development: challenges and solutions," APA-Economics reports.

"Analysis indicate that although broadband mobile networks are widely adopted and covered, a digital divide, a gap between urban and rural areas in terms of the quality, speed, accessibility, and affordability of Internet services remains there. The mobile industry has the potential to drive positive change, empower communities, and create a sustainable future by driving growth in mobile internet adoption, accelerating the uptake of mobile services, and embracing sustainable business practices. The mobile industry must be part of our efforts to get the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals back on track," she said.
