Armenia doesn't want to be part of a dysfunctional mechanism like CSTO - Foreign Minister

"There are certain problems and issues that are important to be clarified in relations with Russia," Minister of Foreign Affairs of ArmeniaArarat Mirzoyan said in an interview with Al Jazeera, APA reports.

He noted that a dialogue on these issues is being conducted between the parties: "This is about the issues that require special focus and mutual understanding. In my opinion, analogous problems exist in all relationships. Instead, we are strenghtening our relations with our other partners, icluding the European Union and the U.S. This includes both democratic reforms and ensuring stability along the Armenia-Azerbaijan border. This is the second year that the presence of the monitoring mission of European Union on our borders serves to protect the existing stable situation."

He also reminded that his country is still a member of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).

He noted that the duty of CSTO, which is a military-political organization, is to protect the borders of the member states, however, their silence arose certain questions in the Armenian society:

"We do not want to be a part of a dysfunctional mechanism like the CSTO," he said.
