Azerbaijan anticipates Tajikistan to actively engage in COP29 - minister

BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 24. Azerbaijan
counts on Tajikistan's active participation in COP29 in Baku,
Azerbaijani Labor and Social Protection Minister Sahil Babayev said
at an event on the occasion of the 33rd anniversary of Tajikistan's
independence, Trend reports.
“As you know, our country is actively preparing for the
Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate
Change (COP29) to be held in Baku in November this year, and we
count on the active participation of Tajikistan. We are confident
that our Tajik colleagues will make a significant contribution to
the success of this conference,” the minister said.
Babayev expressed confidence that relations between Azerbaijan
and Tajikistan will continue to expand.
According to him, almost 90 documents signed during the
high-level visits between the countries have provided a broad legal
basis for the existing relations.
“The total value of commercial contracts and agreements signed
at the Azerbaijani-Tajik business forum held in Baku in May this
year exceeded $700 million. This demonstrates the significant
growth potential of bilateral economic and trade relations. The
major areas of cooperation between our countries include
transportation and logistics, industrial cooperation, and
investment projects,” the minister said.
To note, the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to
the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) will be held
in Azerbaijan in November this year. The decision was made at the
plenary meeting of COP28 held in Dubai on December 11 last year.
Within two weeks, Baku, having become the center of the world, will
host about 70,000-80,000 foreign guests.

The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change is an agreement
signed at the Rio Earth Summit in June 1992 to prevent dangerous
human interference in the climate system. The acronym COP
(Conference of Parties) stands for Conference of Parties, which is
the highest legislative body overseeing the implementation of the
Framework Convention on Climate Change.
A total of 198 countries are parties to the convention. Unless
the parties have decided otherwise, COP is held annually. The first
COP event was held in March 1995 in Berlin, and its secretariat is
located in Bonn.
