Trolleybuses are unprofitable, while buses are more profitable - Vice Mayor

AKIPRESS.COM - Trolleybuses are unprofitable, while buses are more profitable, said Vice Mayor of Bishkek Jamalbek Yrsaliev during the meeting of the permanent commission of the Bishkek city council. 
The commission discussed the issue of transfer of 100 trolleybuses from Bishkek to Osh city. 
Councilor Taalaibek Surapbaev asked if the electric buses, which were said to replace the trolleybuses in Bishkek, have arrived. 
Yrsaliev answered that on November 2, 2022, the municipal enterprise Bishkek Trolleybus Department signed a contract with Ankai Automobile Co., Ltd. on the delivery of 120 electric buses and related charging devices in the second quarter of 2025.
Councilor asked if all trolleybuses are slated for removal.
Yrsaliev said that so far 100 trolleybuses are being considered only. Trolleybuses are being removed as part of the Open Sky initiative, because they are outdated. 
"There is trolleybus advocacy ongoing, but compared with buses, trolleybuses are lossmakers," he said. He said that it's aesthetically pleasing in the city when the sky is free of various wires. He said the city should not hesitate to buy electric buses.
