Wedding of underage individuals takes place in Bukhara
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – A wedding ceremony of underage individuals took place in Bukhara region.
The Office of the Children’s Ombudsman has taken special control over this situation.
During the investigation, it was established that the wedding of a boy born in 2008 and a girl born in 2007 occurred on 29 June in Bukhara with the mutual consent of both families of the minors.
Upon this fact, the investigative group of the Karakul District Police Department conducted necessary investigative actions.
On 2 July, the case against the parents of the minors was sent to court. Law enforcement authorities request the court to hold the parents accountable under Article 47-3 of the Administrative Code (violation of the law on marriage age or the procedure for entering into marriage).
The Office of the Children’s Ombudsman reminded that according to Article 15 of the Family Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the marriage age for men and women is set at 18 years old.
Violation of this legal requirement completely contradicts the child’s rights to education, healthcare, and harmonious physical, mental, and spiritual development, emphasized the Office of the Children’s Ombudsman.
