Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – A delegation from the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, led by Ravshanbek Alimov, Chairman of the Senate Committee on International Relations, Foreign Economic Relations, Foreign Investments, and Tourism, is participating in the summer session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly in Bucharest, Romania.
The event is attended by over 300 parliamentarians from 53 OSCE participating states and cooperation partners.
During the session, meetings of the Special Committee on Countering Terrorism and a seminar on climate change and water scarcity issues in Central Asia were held. Additionally, three committees of the Assembly discussed draft resolutions initiated by participating states.
Parliamentarians supported the OSCE PA resolution "Overcoming the Multi-faceted Consequences of Climate Change and Water Shortages in the Central Asian Region through Regional Cooperation and Parliamentary Dialogue," jointly initiated by the Central Asian countries for the first time.
The resolution’s importance was emphasized in drawing global attention to the region’s environmental issues and developing joint actions to address the consequences of the Aral Sea environmental crisis. The systematic measures undertaken by the government of Uzbekistan to implement agreed projects were positively evaluated in the resolution.
The session agenda also included discussions on conflict resolution within the OSCE space, environmental protection, human rights, exchange of experience in organizing electoral processes, as well as addressing organizational and personnel issues, including the approval of the budget and election of officials within the organization.
Furthermore, a meeting of delegations from Turkic-speaking states within the OSCE PA was held to discuss deepening cooperation within the Assembly.
The OSCE PA session will continue until 4 July.
