Cooperation established with Chinese universities on geo-spatial technologies in environmental research
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – On 25-26 June, Dr. Bakhtiyor Pulatov, Director of the Research Institute of Environment and Nature Conservation Technologies at the Ministry of Ecology, participated in the international conference "Geo-Spatial Intelligent Software Technologies" held in Beijing.
During the conference, a presentation titled "The Role of Geo-Spatial Technologies in Environmental Research in Uzbekistan: Challenges and Solutions" was delivered. Additionally, cooperation agreements were reached with several universities and organizations.
Notably, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed with the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. This memorandum aims to further strengthen cooperation between the two scientific organizations, including joint programs on environmental sciences, transboundary environmental issues, biodiversity conservation, climate change, exchange of doctoral students and researchers, as well as training and seminars.
The memorandum also emphasizes the establishment of a joint laboratory for the successful implementation of scientific, practical, and international projects aligned with modern research needs.
Furthermore, cooperation was established with Beihang University, focusing on the application of geographic information systems and remote sensing technologies in satellite production. This collaboration includes the training of students from the Central Asian University for Environmental Studies and Climate Change ("Green University") at Beihang University.
Meetings were also held with representatives of SuperMap Software, which supports China in satellite-based spatial research, and MinoSpace, a provider of satellites of various sizes. Discussions during these meetings highlighted the enhancement of specialists’ qualifications in satellite production.
It is noteworthy that Uzbekistan is taking initial steps towards launching an artificial satellite related to ecology and environmental studies into space.
For your information, this annual conference is held jointly with the International Federation of Surveyors (FIG), the UN Global Geospatial Knowledge and Innovation Center (UNGGKIC), Chinese government agencies, leading academic associations, and the Innovation Center for Geographic Information System Technologies of the Ministry of Natural Resources of China. The objective is to exchange views among stakeholders on the latest innovative projects in geo-spatial information systems and geographic research implemented across Asia and globally.
