Restoration of Armenian church in Turkey’s Diyarbakir starts

The Saint Sarkis Armenian Church in Diyarbakir, Turkey will be restored, reports Ermenihaber.
The Armenian Patriarchate of Constantinople (Istanbul) on Friday gave the start of the restoration of this 508-year-old church.
The Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Turkey has earmarked only 5 million liras (approx. US$152,000) for this work, whereas according to calculations, another $2 million are needed for the restoration.
The Saint Sarkis Church in Diyarbakir was used as a vocational school during the Ottoman Empire. But after the Armenian Genocide in 1915, this church was not used for religious or any other purposes and is now in a state of ruin.
