Over 5 months, 9.8 thousand road accidents occurred in Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Between January and May 2024, 9.8 thousand road accidents occurred in Uzbekistan.
As a result of these accidents, 2.2 thousand people died and more than 9.2 thousand were injured. This was announced at a meeting of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis.
Particular attention was paid to incidents involving schoolchildren: 359 such cases were registered, in which 65 teenagers died. 
The main reason is the location of 9.5 thousand schools in areas with high levels of car traffic, as well as the lack of sidewalks and traffic lights in front of some educational institutions.
It was also noted at the meeting that in 2024, the number of road accidents decreased by 7.2%, and the number of injuries in road accidents decreased by 8.7%.
