Kyrgyzstan ratifies cooperation agreement on joint advancement of China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project

AKIPRESS.COM - President Sadyr Japarov has signed the law on ratification of the agreement between the Government of China, Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan, Government of Uzbekistan on cooperation in joint advancement of China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project. The agreement was signed on June 6, 2024 in Beijing, the Presidential Administration reported.
The law was passed by the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan on June 19.
The aim of the law is implementation of internal procedures necessary for entry of the given agreement into force.
The new railway corridor will become a southern branch of the Eurasia Continental Bridge corridor and will provide access to the markets of South Asia, West Asia, Middle East, including Turkiye, and then further to the European Union.
The length of the section of China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway on the territory of Kyrgyzstan will make 311.76 km.
Construction of 18 railway stations, 81 bridges and 41 tunnels is planned.
The railway will have two track gauges: 1435 mm from Torugart to Makmal and 1520 mm from Makmal to Jalal-Abad.
The cost of construction of the railway is estimated at $4.7 billion.
