Politico: Israel, Hamas unlikely to resolve conflict by year’s end

Biden administration officials increasingly doubt that Israel and Hamas will reach a comprehensive ceasefire deal under the current framework, according to four US officials familiar with the negotiations, reports Politico.
“I think this is going to go on until at least the end of 2024,” one of the officials said.
He explained that the issue of the withdrawal of Israeli troops from the sector has become a stumbling block in solving the crisis.
The Biden administration is concerned that since neither side is ready to make concessions, the hostilities in Gaza may continue for several more months.
According to White House sources, Israeli authorities and Hamas generally agree to a six-week ceasefire with the aim of releasing Israeli hostages and Palestinian detainees, but there is no consensus on how to settle the conflict once and for all.
Hamas wants Israel to agree to completely withdraw its troops from the Palestinian enclave, while Israel declares that its army will not leave Gaza until Hamas is completely destroyed.
According to American officials, these disagreements can disrupt the signing of an agreement to settle the conflict.
