Armenia government approves Eurasian Economic Union-Iran free trade agreement

The Armenian government approved, at its Cabinet meeting Friday, the free trade agreement between the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and its member states, on the one hand, and Iran, on the other hand.
This agreement was signed on December 25, 2023 in Saint Petersburg, Russia.
The attached lists are also an integral part of this agreement, in which the parties are ready to provide tariff privileges for the products included.
In agricultural products, the proposals presented by the Armenian side mainly include those products that are of primary interest for Armenia's export and that also have a large share in the amount of exports from Armenia to Iran, in particular: mineral and carbonated waters, non-alcoholic beverages, chocolate, confectionery, tobacco, mutton, which will be subject to zero import duties to Iran.
In industrial products, the proposals presented by the Armenian side mainly include those products that are of primary interest to Armenia for export and that also have a large share in the amount of exports from Armenia to Iran, in particular: mineral raw materials (copper and zinc ore, molybdenum ore), silverware, copper anodes, vapor generators, electronic cigarettes, thermostats, etc.
Access to the Iranian market will be liberalized also for electricity and used batteries, and import duties for jewelry and medicines will be reduced.
Regarding some agricultural products which are most sensitive for the economy of Armenia, it was proposed to maintain and apply seasonal tariff quotas for imports into the EAEU territory for pepper, eggplant, watermelon and melons, as well as tariff quotas for plastic products in the industrial sector.
Within the framework of this agreement, the Iranian side stipulates obligations to zero import customs duties for the first time in the practice of its international trade agreements.
Under this agreement, the supply of goods from EAEU member states to Iran will be ensured without transition periods.
