European Parliament elections: Centrists keep majority, far right strengthen their positions

European Parliament elections have ended in the European Union (EU).
Voters of 27 EU member countries elected 720 members of the European Parliament.
According to the voting results, the largest group in this parliament will be the centrist European People's Party (EPP), but the right (ECR, European Conservatives and Reformists Group), as well as the far-right Identity and Democracy Group have considerably strengthened their positions.
The Social Democrats, the left, and the Greens, however, have received fewer votes.
About 360 million voters were eligible to vote in these elections.
Voter turnout in most EU member countries was higher than in 2019.
The European Parliament approves the composition of the European Commission—but it itself is formed on the basis of agreements between EU member countries—as well as pan-European legislative initiatives.
