Turkmenistan, Philippines debate new format for Central Asia-ASEAN dialogue

ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, September 30.
Turkmenistan and the Philippines discussed the creation of a new
format of interaction between the countries of Central Asia and
ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations), Trend reports via the
Turkmen Foreign Ministry.
The initiative was presented to the Turkmen side during a
meeting between Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov and his
Philippine counterpart Enrico Manalo within the framework of
discussing issues of bilateral and multilateral cooperation on the
sidelines of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly.
The parties expressed mutual interest in intensifying political
dialogue and holding regular political consultations.
The possibility of strengthening partnerships in the economic,
cultural and humanitarian spheres was also considered.
Concluding the meeting, the ministers confirmed the importance
of continuing cooperation and expansion in the trade, economic,
cultural and humanitarian spheres between the countries of Central
Asia and ASEAN.



To note, ASEAN is a regional intergovernmental organization
comprising 10 Southeast Asian countries: Brunei, Vietnam,
Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand,
and the Philippines. Founded in 1967, the organization aims to
promote economic growth, cultural exchange, political stability,
and peaceful cooperation among the countries in the region.
ASEAN's economic activities span a wide range of sectors,
including trade, investment, infrastructure development, and
industrial projects.
