US State Dept. approves $341M missile sale to Romania

The United States State Department granted approval on Tuesday for the potential sale of AIM-9X air-to-air missiles and related equipment to Romania, with a value of $341 million, APA reports citing Breaking The News.

The decision was made in response to Romania's request to acquire 300 AIM-9X Sidewinder Block II tactical missiles from Washington. RTX Corporation, a US military manufacturer, will serve as the primary contractor for this transaction, as stated by the Department of Defense.

"The proposed sale will improve Romania's capability to meet current and future threats by providing air-to-air missiles for its F-16 fleet in support of NATO's defense mission. Romania will have no difficulty absorbing these weapons into its armed forces," the Pentagon said in the statement.
