Azerbaijani Foreign Minister touches upon possibility of signing peace agreement with Armenia

"Regarding the negotiation process around the peace agreement, I will say that intense negotiations have restored since February,” said Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov at a joint press conference with Ian Borg, OSCE Chair-in-Office, Minister for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade of the Republic of Malta, APA reports.

“During the period till now, documents and conditions were exchanged, but physical meetings were stopped. But the process was continued with the meetings of Munich, Berlin and Almaty. A lot of discussion was held as a result of the last meeting. Although I don't want to go into details, I evaluate these talks positively,” – he noted.

The Foreign Minister also added that expectations should be appropriate and realistic: “This is a very complex and necessary process. The peace agreement should be a fair agreement and to be based on international law for the Azerbaijani side, and it should be an agreement that excludes the possibility of bringing any questionable points to the table in the future. Also, of course, we take into account the expectations of the other party and work for mutual solutions. The Almaty talks were the next step. Whether it is a big step or a small one, we will know only at the end of the process. But I will say that this is an important part of the process. We said this during the press statement that the parties have reached an agreement on the continuation of negotiations. I think we will witness this in the near future.”
