"The great social-political activity carried out by the First Vice-President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva embodies the valuable contributions of our women to the development of our society and country," Speaker of Azerbaijan's Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova said her speech at the Asian Women's Forum held in Samarkand, Republic of Uzbekistan, as she informed about the conducted measures and achievements in the protection and expansion of women's rights in Azerbaijan, APA reports.
Speaking about the lage-scale construction and restoration works carried out by Aerbaijan following liberation of its territories from Armenian occupation, Sahiba Gafarova said that former IDPs have already started returning to their own homes. One of the priority directions of the I State Program on the Great Return is to provide job opportunities for women in these territories.
The Speaker of the Milli Majlis also reminded that this year Azerbaijan will host the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 29) to the United Nations Climate Change Conference (UNFCCC COP 29), and noted that hosting such a prestigious international event is a matter of pride for Azerbaijan. Stating that Azerbaijan is carrying out preparations for COP29 at a high level, the Speaker of Azerbaijan's Parliament noted that ensuring the effective participation of women in the Organizing Committee of the event shows Azerbaijan's determination to involve women in the fight against climate change.
