Azerbaijan detains person attempting to smuggle drugs from Iran

Sadig Alakbarov, a resident of the Neftchala district who was previously convicted of illegal drug trafficking under the guise of fishing, was detained during the measures carried out by the Main Drug Enforcement Department in the district, APA reports citing the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan.

87 kilograms of dried marijuana enriched with psychotropic substances were found on him and in a half-building specially designed to hide drugs near his house. Investigations revealed that S. Alakbarov organized the smuggling of narcotics into the country in collaboration with an Iranian citizen, whose identity is under investigation, named "Said" and obtained the marijuana by the sea in Neftchala district. He planned to deliver those drugs to individuals for financial gain.

A criminal case has been initiated in connection with the fact, and a pretrial detention measure has been chosen for the detained person. Operative-investigative measures are being continued.
